Teresa Darnall, DM, MSN, RN, CNE is an Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean at the May School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Spec) in political science from University of Alberta, a Master of Arts in Management from Saint Scholastica College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Toronto, a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Capella University and a Doctorate in Management from University of Phoenix. Her dissertation was titled, “Strategic Planning in Ontario Acute Care Hospitals: A Mixed-Method Study.” She holds Certification as a Nurse Educator. Dr. Darnall worked in health administration for over 15 years in northern Ontario, Canada. She started five asthma clinics in Northwestern Ontario and was a Project Manager at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center coordinating chronic disease management between TBRHSC and health care providers across a large geographical area. Upon returning to the United States in 2010, she worked for DaVita Inc. as a group facility manager over three dialysis clinics. Dr. Darnall is a Faith Community Nurse with Higgins Memorial UMC, providing health education and promotion, assessments, transitional care, and referrals to county agencies. She has presented at several international and national conferences on leadership, nursing leadership, and strategic planning. Her research interests are transitional nursing care and health promotion in rural communities.
Dr. Darnall is on the Executive Committee of the North Carolina Future of Nursing – Action Coalition. She held positions of Treasurer and Governance Chair for Sigma Theta Tau International, Beta Omicron Chapter (2012-2015), North Carolina League of Nursing Finance Committee (2015-2016), the Southern Nursing Research Society Finance Committee (2016-present), and the North Carolina Nurses Association (2019-present). She is the treasurer of the Faith Community Nurses International (2018 to present) and is a member of the ATI Product Advisory Committee. She lives in Burnsville, NC with her husband, Russell Darnall, Core Faculty in master’s in project management at Walden University. Their three children and two grandchildren all live in Canada.
