The Invest in Nursing grant has had great success over the past three years in the partnership between UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing and Piedmont Health Services, Inc., with three cohorts of Student Scholars from UNC Chapel Hill, and with three cohorts of Faculty Fellows from across the State of North Carolina. This program is a time-limited grant funded opportunity, provided by the Health Resources and Services Administration, and will no longer continue programming in this current iteration after the 2021-2022 cohort year. It is our hope that other educational entities will use Invest in Nursing as a blueprint for implementing similar programming. Reach Out

This project will support up to five (5) students for three (3) consecutive semesters and will provide an opportunity for undergraduate nursing students to enhance their education through applied clinical practice in community-based, primary care settings. Students will receive hands-on training and participate on interprofessional teams. In addition, students will be encouraged to volunteer for the Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC) and will complete one of the Spanish for Health Professionals courses (PUBH61X).

Program Scope: The Invest in Nursing Student Scholar program is a combination of 3 semesters of didactic, experiential, and service-learning opportunities aimed at providing nursing students with advanced knowledge and competencies necessary to excel as a clinician in community-based primary care.
