The Invest in Nursing grant has had great success over the past three years in the partnership between UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing and Piedmont Health Services, Inc., with three cohorts of Student Scholars from UNC Chapel Hill, and with three cohorts of Faculty Fellows from across the State of North Carolina. This program is a time-limited grant funded opportunity, provided by the Health Resources and Services Administration, and will no longer continue programming in this current iteration after the 2021-2022 cohort year. It is our hope that other educational entities will use Invest in Nursing as a blueprint for implementing similar programming. Reach Out

Ismael Urbina

BSN-4

Ismael Urbina was born and raised in Wilmington, NC. He transferred to UNC-Chapel Hill after receiving an Associate of Science degree from Cape Fear Community College. Ismael’s passion to make a difference in the lives of underrepresented populations can be seen through his actions. Watching his younger sister suffer from epilepsy motivated him to team up with local neurologists, the president of the Epilepsy Foundation of North Carolina and nurses to create a support group for people with epilepsy in his community. While leading the support group for over 3 years, Ismael was able to make a tremendous impact in the lives of many people in his community. Ismael plans to continue to make an impact while working with North Carolinas underserved populations as a nurse.
